Don’t stop til you get enough…. insurance coverage? January 25, 2014

As some of you may  know I have been living up in Connecticut for over a year and a half now, which has been even better than I could have thought it could be.  The only thing that has been a bump in the road has been finding health insurance.  Connecticut has been an exclusion state for preexisting conditions and President Obama’s change in health care laws didn’t change this.  That’s right it did not change it so for more than 2 years I have been  applying for health insurance and being denied.  I was denied even when I already had insurance in New York before I moved (cuz’ I thought I was being clever and prepared to do it before)  finally a few months before I could apply for the affordable care act I found an insurance for $750 per month and… well… that wasn’t doable.

Now onto the affordable care act…  By this point in my health insurance education I’m exceptionally well versed.  I was already well versed due to having health issues and learning what everything meant and provided.  Soooo… now I found what was a great solution albeit having a rather high deductible but was a PPO and the monthly premiums were doable.  It’s Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) and everyone accepts BCBS… Right?  I wait for my card and it didn’t arrive in time for my doctors visits which isn’t a big deal because I can go on the website to print out a copy of my card but wait!  I need my ID number to do that…  OK.  So I call BCBS and it takes 45 minutes to prove I have paid.  So then I have to be sent to the CT division and that’s were I wait for an hour. … Then hang up.  Now picture, I’m off to my first of many doctors visit with no card but knowing after my phone call that “they can call and prove my eligibility”.  Either way I’m pleased that for the first time in over a year I don’t  have to be a self pay patient (which I have paid an incredible amount during this time).  This is when I am told that my doctor doesn’t participate with this division of Blue Cross Blue Shield.  What?  Wait a minute… it’s now not just an entire insurance company it’s an individual prefix before my customer ID that can not be accepted? And in the state of CT it’s looking rather ubiquitous as to the doctors not accepting the CT exchange through the affordable care act…

Through all this frustration and incredible exhaustion I have been taking each day as it comes.   So I have been asking myself, “What’s your takeaway from this?”….  And I keep coming back to a Michael Jackson song ( forgive me 🙂 ) going through my head..

So I’m simply not going to let this get to me… I am making a choice to not let this get me down and save my energy for healthier things.  So I’m not going to stop until I get what I want!  Where in your life can you make a different choice?  One that raises your energetic level versus bringing it down?  I’d love to hear!

Sending Lots of Love!
