#RadicallyBeautiful

Michael Allen Wells

Mine Hill Roxbury CT

I have been chatting a bit about finding something Radically Beautiful with my clients recently.  This effort is a great way to bring you back into the moment when we find ourselves crazed from the day.  I tend to find the way the light looks as my radically beautiful thing.  Here a couple of pictures to illustrate some light I find pretty breathtaking.  My friend Michael Alan Wells took the picture on the left.  Now let’s take a deep breath in and a deep breath out… Ahhhhhh.  Taking advantage of this skill can do so much for you.  It not only brings you right back into presence but it goes so far as to immediately lower your blood pressure.  I find seeing that which is Radically beautiful is even better than asking myself “Where are my feet right now?”.  Which has been my go to, to bring myself back into the present moment.  This skill helps us to see the beauty in the world instead of the thing that might be taking us out of the moment because we don’t like what’s currently happening.  Once we take a beat and stop and “look up and look out”  and relax into the moment we have an easier time assessing what is really going on for us.  so that we can choose what we want to feel and think.

Which leads me to my next thought.  I was out and about today with my sweetie and A-bomb and was looking at my phone when I stopped and looked up and looked out and realized I was missing the day.  How often have you been lost in a gadget and missed out on what was really happening right in front of you?  I almost missed out on a spectacular day.  So put down that gadget (of course after you stop reading this post :-)) and get out of the house today!

Share your #RadicallyBeautiful thoughts with me today!

Live life like you’re on Vacation! November 19, 2013

vacationIt’s becoming cold here on the east coast so it got me thinking about vacation…..So wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could live everyday like we were on vacation… everyday? Well you can!  Stop and think about your frame of mind. What do you do differently when you’re on vacation.  Is it that you turn off all the various and sundry gadgets? Or you take a little bit more time for yourself.  What is it?  My favorite is that I have no schedule. Now I know that, that is not necessarily possible in our everyday lives.  We can’t just jump off the bus because we see an exquisite fountain in a park, but what is it that made us see the fountain in the first place?  What is it that sparks us to talk with people who we may never notice in our daily routines?  How differently do you breathe?  Lots of questions I know.  Take some time with this one. Moments in our day are so precious.  How can we stop and look up and look out so that we enjoy that moment like we’re on vacation versus our regular routine?  Again focus on your breath…. How differently do you breathe and why do you do so? Then how can you incorporate that into what you do daily? By allowing the breathe in we can allow for the spaciousness were those moments of spontaneous beauty can happen. I mean we all would love our dream vacation every day… but then again it would stop being our dream vacation then. So how wonderful would it be if we incorporated some of the mind-set into our daily life to make that life as full as if we were on vacation!

So go ahead and give it a try! Live life like you’re on Vacation!

Summer Heat…. July 24, 2011

Little Sahara

With the mercury rising and most people up in arms because of the heat, what opportunity can you find instead of an obstacle when going about our daily routine.  I have to admit I’ve made many a joke when talking about the increasingly rising temp…i.e. “Another naked day in NYC!”.  But I really do LOVE the heat!! I have found that it slows me down.  I stroll instead of walk the mock speeds I tend to do.  Which in turn gives me the opportunity to look up and look out (that phrase I love so much) a bit more than I usually do.  I get some vitamin D and feel a bit more apart of the world.  And isn’t it being part of something, what it’s all about?

Instead of thinking, “This heat is gross!” You can think, “How fun to wear shorts!” or “I’m so glad we have…what ever kind of seasons you have!”.  Then I start to wonder where else I may be seeing an obstacle instead of an opportunity? Work or relationships?  So, where might you being seeing obstacles? What can this luxurious heat be teaching you other than, “It’s really nice to go naked!”?

Enjoy!

Masturbation…. April 8, 2011

Masturbation is a big topic for my clients. Whether to do or not to do? How much or how little? Then the judgement begins to creep in (more for women than men) whether they are good or bad because of regularity or irregularity? Whether to continue after they are in a relationship or not?

I really wonder where these judgements begin?  When does everyone begin to masturbate? Who’s voice is telling them they are good or bad?  Men start to touch them selves at an early age when they are potty trained and earlier.  Women are not given the ok to touch their clitoris and vagina when they are potty trained and their stigmas (here is a wonderful article from the Huffington Post) that are attached to the wanting of self pleasuring.  Imagine if women could stroke their clitoris’ every time they went to the bathroom?  They’d be so much more familiar with they’re our bodies starting at a much earlier age. And not just monthly once they hit the age of menstruation and that stigma hits. Because let’s be honest when we finally got our period it wasn’t this momentous occasion that everyone made it out to be. It was just a moment in time.  And some woman don’t become familiar with their body even then…

Masturbation is an amazing self soothing, self gratify and a wonderful way to know what pleases us so that we are able to express to our partner just that.  Because how can they know what pleases us until we know what pleases us? Your partner knows what pleases them when they touch you but How great would it be to be able to tell them what you love so that they can take pleasure in that as well.  It’s a win-win!!

When it comes to masturbation however you arrive at your climax is your way and to let go of judgement is the first step.  If toys are needed then Talley-Ho!! If it is simply a hand then take time to explore… If it is toys then I happen to love a NYC based and  on-line store called Babeland.  But there will be another post about toys in the bedroom anon!

Who of you… January 7, 2011

I have written before about the Zen Buddhist word Mehta or Maitri the words for unconditional love for one’s self. The meditation practice is a practice of loving kindness. It starts with someone who is the easiest to love, then it shifts to oneself and then moves out to the person who is the most difficult to love. So then with great practice even if you were say, being robbed you would still have great loving kindness for the robber.

These thoughts lead me to the thought of how do we cultivate the most loving, compassionate, passionate relationship on this 3rd dimensional planet….? We started with, You! How can you love someone else until you love yourself unconditionally however you are.  So I invite you during this next week when you find that you are letting your chattering monkey get away, stop yourself and ask,”Where are my feet?” then. “Who takes care of me the best?” YOU! You are the only who can know you the best!

I will write more on this topic in my next “Who of You”.  Again Who is your most passionate partner?…. You?

I truly believe that people have good intentions, not all comButterflye out that way but it is because they are not conscious enough to know the difference. And we live in a world of advice giving when one is in distress or when one appears to ask for our opinion…. What do we do? We give our advice , most freely.  Often times all they are really asking for is comfort and in reality… drum roll…. No one really listens to advice anyway. Now I know that this is a hard pill to swallow but here’s the deal.  We all do exactly what we want to do in the end.

So here’s a thought…. I invite you to be quiet. I know that it is not easy but let who ever it is simply vent. I know it’s completely understandable to have a need to want help. But what is it that the butterfly does before it can fly? Struggle. So be uncomfortable with this for a while.  And yes the advice asker always has to fact find but I invite you to simply be quiet and allow yourself to see what happens when you don’t give advice.  Just listen….. Be supportive. Allow for the spaciousness of quietness.

When is the last time you gave advice…?  How can you become a better listener? See what grace the space allows…

“To risk loving, knowing that loss is inevitable, I think, is the single most important challenge of our lives.”

Pam Houston

I read this quote this morning and it has been sitting with me… I believe that I am on this planet to be as unconditionally loving as I can be. Not only to myself but to others.  Once we are able to master this we can be and do anything. Set healthy boundaries, be profoundly present, and love, simply love.  But here is my thought for you… loss, loss as in a break-up.  Do we actually lose that person? Or do we lose their presence in our present life? How are we entering the relationships in are lives? Even the simply social ones.  What are our motives? How wonderful would it be if we could truly be present with the time we are allotted.  A day, week, month, year or decade.  Loss is inevitable… If we stay in the present and cherish all that we have, what we have is a gift for what ever time we are given. So my question is how would you like to enter your relationships?  What kind of presence would you like to have?

What does this quote mean to you? How does it resonate?
