Questioning…. April 29, 2010

I wrote something on my Facebook site today that I felt needed further explanation… the post was this:  Always be searching. Always be questioning. And when you think you’ve found the answer….. Start questioning some more because when we stop learning we die. What can you do today to stretch yourself?

The questioning that I am talking about is that of a child… with inquisitiveness.  Have you ever spent time with a child and every other word out of their mouth is “why?… why?…..why?”.  It’s not about being right it’s about learning, growing becoming a greater human being.  So when I say “When you think you have found the answer” ask why again. The day we stop is the day we become stagnant and our brain ceases to grow and we cease to grow hence we die.  So our child like questioning will not only keep us young but keep us Brilliant!

So I ask you How can you stretch yourself today? What can you learn today that you didn’t know yesterday?

Let Your Soul Dance Free! April 24, 2010

I have this thing, call it love call it passion, you could even go so far as to call it an obsession with dance. You’ll either hear me say “She’s at it again” or “She’s dancin’ around her apartment again”, Thank goodness I live in a garden apartment or I’m certain my neighbors might not be too pleased with me. But there’s something so freeing about dance and the release of the spirit. When breath, emotion and the physicality connect to the authentic self nothing can compare.  It’s a moving meditation.  So I try to dance around with sheer abandon, like no one is looking everyday.  It is one of the most joyful things I do and I wanted to share is with you.

So I invite you to turn on the music and let your soul move to its own song.  Here is some inspiration

Being of Service…. April 23, 2010

“I slept and dreamt that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was service. I acted and behold, service was joy.” -Tagore

I believe that whatever you give comes back to you ten fold.  In science… Like energy attracts like energy.  Hence by being of service in whatever you do it will come back to you. It’s amazing what can happen when we start to look outside ourselves and think about what we can do for someone else… Start small look around you when you leave the house, does some need help carrying their groceries or their stroller up the subway stairs.  Then branch out by maybe helping with a non-profit.  What can you do today to look outside yourself and be of service for someone else? The joy that is received by the joy that is given is palpable.  All you have to do is look into the face of the person you are helping.

Live life like you’re on Vacation! April 12, 2010

vacationWouldn’t it be wonderful if we could live everyday like we were on vacation? Well you can!  Stop and think about your frame of mind or what you do differently when you’re on vacation.  Is it that you turn off all the various and sundry gadgets? Or you take a little bit more time for yourself.  What is it?  My favorite is that I have no schedule. Now I know that, that is not necessarily possible in our everyday lives.  We can’t just jump off the bus because we see an exquisite fountain in a park, but what is it that made us see the fountain in the first place?  What is it that sparks us to talk with people who we may never notice in our daily routines?  How differently do you breathe?  Lots of questions I know.  Take some time with this one. Moments in our day are so precious.  How can we stop and look up and look out so that we enjoy that moment like we’re on vacation versus our regular routine?  Again focus on your breath…. How different do you breathe and why do you do so? Then how can you incorporate that into what you do daily? By allowing the breathe in we can allow for the spaciousness were those moments of spontaneous beauty can happen. I mean we all would love our dream vacation every day… but then again it would stop being our dream vacation then. So how wonderful would it be if we incorporated some of the mind-set into our daily life to make that life as full as if we were on vacation!

So go ahead and give it a try! Live life like you’re on Vacation!

A Win-Win April 6, 2010

Where did the expression, “Dog eat dog world” come from or “Eye for and eye” or for that fact “There ain’t no such thing as a free lunch”.  Yes, it is all about someone winning and another loosing and a hard world but what I am wondering is what would happen if we shift our thinking to more of an everybody wins?….

How can we enter every interaction as a win-win?  Most people enter situations asking themselves what’s in it for me?… But what would happen if we were to shift this thinking into What’s in it for us?  How can we both win?  Whether it be work, home, friendship or nearly every facet of our lives?  Who says that someone has to lose and someone has to win? I was once told that the way you do anything is the way you do everything…. Think about it.  The best example is a simple board game.  Did you enter thinking win-win?

Thought for today.

“To risk loving, knowing that loss is inevitable, I think, is the single most important challenge of our lives.”

Pam Houston

I read this quote this morning and it has been sitting with me… I believe that I am on this planet to be as unconditionally loving as I can be. Not only to myself but to others.  Once we are able to master this we can be and do anything. Set healthy boundaries, be profoundly present, and love, simply love.  But here is my thought for you… loss, loss as in a break-up.  Do we actually lose that person? Or do we lose their presence in our present life? How are we entering the relationships in are lives? Even the simply social ones.  What are our motives? How wonderful would it be if we could truly be present with the time we are allotted.  A day, week, month, year or decade.  Loss is inevitable… If we stay in the present and cherish all that we have, what we have is a gift for what ever time we are given. So my question is how would you like to enter your relationships?  What kind of presence would you like to have?

What does this quote mean to you? How does it resonate?

Community March 24, 2010

Community:  people with common interests living in a particular area

I was reminded today about the importance of community.  A dear friend fell and shattered her wrist over the weekend.  Which has left her pretty immobile.  She is a power house: Mom, Artist and dear friend to many.  Not only did she have a 7 year old’s birthday party to plan but she has the opening night of a Show the following weekend.  Not to mention passover when loads of friends and family alike tend to descend on her home for amazing food and unconditional love!

This leads me to my thought about community…. I live in an extraordinary area of Brooklyn.  It’s not the typical city neighborhood where you don’t know your neighbors. We all know and like each other!  When word got out what had happened friends showed up from all over.  Whether to clean, bring food, shop or pick her x-rays!  Anything and everything!  Love shows up just when we need it and then some, when you have already reached out to others!  I believe that we as humans are unable to survive without community.  I mean I’m sure you can but how could community positively affect your quality of life?

So I ask you… Where do you find your community?  How do you nurture those relationships?  Community can mean different things to all people but it inherently comes down to the same thing: Support and friendship from those around you.  Also, How do you reach for support?  My friend is a wonderful example of, “What you put out comes back to you”.  She is always the first to come when support is needed…..

So I invite you to acknowledge those who are in your Community… Give Thanks! Look around and possibly see people who are there that you may not even had realized!  Wouldn’t that be exciting!!

I have blogged about Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor in the past but I wanted a little inspiration today!  It is amazing what can happen when we neurologically align our Brain with our heart!! Consciousness: The way we perceive ourselves and others in the world.  Here’s her most exquisite sharing at the TED Talks!
