How do you unplug? October 26, 2011

As I sit here listening to the clock tick and the birds chirp, I wonder how do people unplug?  We, myself included run around during our day strapped to our phone.  Not but 10 years ago we were able to leave our home/office and be relatively untethered.  But now between texting, IM’ing, Facebook, Twitter, blogs, LinkedIn or any social media for that fact (along with all the different  pieces of technology we use) we undergo a barrage of static energy.  For our business and our relationships to work we have told ourselves this is how it needs to be.  But I want to know: What do you want it to be?  How can we find that happy medium where our business and intimate relationships can thrive? How can you unplugged? Turn off? Put down and walk away from this stimulus?

You know how when your on vacation and you decide to turn off your phone and computer it can take at least a few days to realize that you aren’t running late for something? You know that feeling: “I know I should be doing something”.  How do you allow it to dissipate?  It amazes me how long it takes that anxious feeling to go away and it’s even stronger when you work for yourself! What can you do to unplug, step away and put down the gadgets?  Is it taking a walk… without them? Meditate? How do you give yourself permission to not respond?  I have really been enjoying getting out in nature and going for a walk… Heaven.  This stress level can and to myriad illnesses as we know. So let’s start a dialogue on what we can do to let in the air, Love and space!

What do you do?

Jealousy: An inside job October 4, 2011

As many of you know I’m inspired by my clients on a regular basis and as such I end up writing about that inspired thought.  Well today it is about jealousy.  For some reason this topic has been coming up quite a but recently so it got me thinking.  What’s it all about and why do this pesky emotion keep creeping up?  Often times it’s in reference to a partner or it could even be cooked up at work.  So why does this happen in the first place?  I have found that it is because you are uncomfortable about something or you don’t feel secure in your present situation.  It doesn’t have anything to do with the other person.  It is an inside job, like most things.  It’s about the choices you are making to feel the way you feel.  How can you take a step back so that you can have some objectivity?  So you can see what is really bothering you.  In what way do you  feel like you are not measuring up?  How can you take a breath and step back?

Also it’s created by a communication line that has been hidden from you.  Once you have addressed it within, you can then talk about it with your partner/work associate. What’s a way of addressing it so you can phrase the question from an “I” standpoint? Like,”I just wanted to talk about something so I won’t continue to stew. Are you… (what’s causing the jealousy)”  Then that line of communication has been addressed.

When we allow ourselves to feel that vulnerable feeling and know that it’s ok…. We are then able to shift those catabolic (unhealthy) emotions because this toxic emotion can wreak havoc with the fiber of that working relationship.  So if we acknowledge what’s going on and what’s really at the base of those feelings we can shift them and foster a more healthy union, be it work or intimate.

Walking With a Friend… September 13, 2011

Monday morning I woke up and went for a walk with a friend.  Now this city girl walks all the time but it’s exactly as you might think it is… on pavement, all day long.  Well this morning my walk was out early and up where the air was so fresh it almost smelled like grapes.  Seriously it smelled like grapes!.  When it didn’t smell of grapes it was of pine trees and I was immediately brought back to being a little kid during the summer at a house in Maine my family use to go to.  There was so much moisture in the air that even the barn we walked past looked hazy. It was so close yet it felt quite surreal.  What made it even more lovely was there was no lack of conversation yet there wasn’t a need to speak. The air… was just so easy to breathe.  It was just so easy to be…. I could have kept walking forever not just the hour that we were out!

This led me to a litany of questions: I wonder what do you do to get out of your head?  How do you share space with another? What do you do to breathe easier?  Do you walk with a friend? Meditate?

What was so delicious about this moment in time was that it was different from my normal morning routine.  I hope for you a peaceful nature filled week!

Inspired by a client… September 7, 2011

So today I was inspired by a Client! How do you take care of yourselves? And how does it manifest in your life? Often times in our busy life we loose track of time and stop eating right our sleeping the amount we would like. But specifically during the Winter our eating habit sometimes fall by the wayside because our favorite local vegetables that are easily accessible during the summer just can’t be found unless they are shipped in from afar…. Well I came across an AMAZING site today called WindowFarms.org. Well you might ask yourself… What are Window Farms? “Window Farms are vertical, hydroponic, modular, low-energy, high-yield edible window gardens built using low-impact or recycled local materials.” This organizations goal is to start a Window farming craze in New York City and other dense urban areas. In turn helping people grow some of their food year-round in their apartment windows. Take a look at this:

So maybe you, like me will be inspired to get the instructions off the site! Hey winter is just around the corner!

Feeling Uninspired…. August 22, 2011

Get out and take a walk!

I was just about to post on my personal Facebook page that I was staring at my blog feeling uninspired to write, without any ideas….  So I though I would write about, just that!  How often through out the day do you stare at your work space feeling uninspired?  I know for me when that happens I get up and do a myriad other things.  Like clean my desk for the umpteenth time or clean part or all of my apartment. If this doesn’t work I take a walk, get out.  As  a writer of a few different projects the idea, for me is to ultimately just sit down and write.  It doesn’t matter how long as long as I do it.  As a blogger I figured write about how I’m feeling right now.  I don’t know about you but I get inspired when I hear about a friend who allocates a specific amount of time each day and just does it! Or the illustrious Deepak Chopra who has written many of his mountain of books right on his phone!  I have to remember, for me…. baby steps.

So my question to you is: What do you do to stay inspired?  How do you keep from getting the dull drums?  For me at the end of the day it is about living life to its fullest and as I always say, “Look up and look out!”

What are the signs of Procrastination… August 17, 2011

Everyone has moments where they procrastinate, but do you know what the sign’s are?  I read a great article today that got me thinking. Do you know what he’s in your way of completing tasks? What are your blocks? Do you know how to set time sensitive object goals?  Here is a great list of signs of the procrastination.

Compulsive procrastinators may not have all the signs listed here, but if you identify with many of these characteristics, you are probably a compulsive procrastinator.

  1. Disappointment is a way of life. We constantly disappoint other people and ourselves by not keeping our promises.
  1. We have enormous difficulty getting started on new projects, or transitioning from one project to another.
  1. We have a very poor sense of time, chronically underestimating or overestimating how long a task will take us to complete.
  1. We have difficulty organizing projects by breaking them down into steps; we don’t know where to start, even when we’re willing to start.
  1. We are surrounded by clutter and disorganization in our homes and work spaces.
  1. We are regularly late for appointments.
  1. We are acutely aware of what we should be doing, or think we should be doing, and oddly out of touch with what we actually want and need.
  1. We feel uncomfortable saying “no” to requests from others, and instead express our resentment through the passive resistance of procrastination.
  1. We suffer from Demand Resistance, causing us to do anything and everything except the one thing we most need to do.
  1. We are short-term thinkers, focusing on short-term pleasure while ignoring long-term well-being.

If any of these possibly relate to you a great way to manage them is to work with a Certified Life Coach!
