Piling a lot of “Should” all over yourself March 22, 2010

I find myself saying to clients…”Don’t pile a lot of ‘should’ all over yourself”

Everyone has, at some point if not regularly said, “I should have done this or I should have done that”.  But “should” is right up there with “Have to”.  How can you reframe your thought to make a “Should” into a want?  When we are energetically aligned with “shoulds” and “Have to” we are less likely to get things done.  That is when procrastination sets in or we simply choose not to do it. But if we align with a “want” it is amazing what you might see and how you might feel.  I invite you to look at how you feel when you really want something verses feeling like you should do something.

For example… “I Have to go to work”  Actually you don’t!  You don’t have to do anything you don’t Want to do.  The repercussions for not going to work are that you don’t get paid, or you lose your job all together.  Not, such a great outcome.  What is wanted is the paycheck, however big or small it may be.  You want to pay your bills.  You want to live a full and abundant life.   When you focus on what it is that you are getting (the pay back) out of any situation the shift to a “want” is more fluid.

I invite you to look at how often you use the word “Should”… Or “Have to’s”. Being aware of our self talk is the beginning of the process.

Back in November I started a Gratitude Experiment for a month and blogged about it…. And you know what I miss it.

I’ve kept a Gratitude Journal for over a decade now and I have always found myself to be a very Gr8ful human but I got to wondering…. What would be different if I stated my gratitude not only throughout the day but out loud so that others heard me.  Well I found out a few very powerful things:

  • It immediately pulls you into the moment and quiets the chattering monkey and the gremlins.  It allows you to hear your own authentic voice.
  • By sharing with others what they are Gr8ful for we energetically hold their and your intentions at a higher more healthy level for Gratitude to grow.
  • Hence the more you find to be Gr8ful for, the more you have to be Gr8ful for!

This month-long experiment was amazing! So what was an experiment, is now going to be part of my everyday life.   Here are the 5 things I am Gr8ful 4, for today!

Today I’m Gr8ful 4:

  1. Beautiful delicious Sunshine!
  2. A cranberry scone from Once Upon a Tart
  3. Clearing away things and taking them to Good Will (Check Out yesterday’s )
  4. Organic and Locally made Nubian Heritage Shea Butter
  5. Chinese Herbs

I invite you to join me! Start telling me what you are Gr8ful 4 and see what shows up in your life. Tweet it, Facebook it or simply comment here.  I’d LOVE to know and share in this journey with you.

As some of you may know my old blog was all about anything green: reduce, reuse, recycle!  I am a firm believer of the old zen adage,”clarity of space is clarity of mind”.  Well, I was sent by a good Friend and fellow blogger, Lisa Hargus to a website all about my favorite past time….. Clarifying! Called Makeunder My Life! And an adorable prolific blogger in Chicago named Jess has an outstanding blog about clearing your space.  One of her principles is that she invites us to remove one item that we are no longer using every friday. And by doing so we allow the space for something new. The idea is quality not quantity.  It is about allowing the space for energetic newness and in turn designing a life with intention!!!  How much do I love her!!!  Follow this woman on Twitter Tweeples!

I put this up on my old blog back on 2008 but I wanted to share it with you again.  To quote Wayne Dyer… “When you change the way you look at this the things you look at change”…. Food for thought today.

Thank’s Elizabeth for the reminder….. I’m grateful for friends today. What are you grateful for?

Dare to Belive March 4, 2010

This was read to me awhile back and I thought I’d share with you….

Dare To Believe

Everybody knows:
You can’t be all things to all people.
You can’t do all things at once.
You can’t do all things equally well.
You can’t do all things better than everyone else.
Your humanity is showing just like everyone else’s.

So:

You have to find out who you are, and be that.
You have to decide what comes first, and do that.
You have to discover your strengths, and use them.
You have to learn not to compete with others,
Because no one else is in the contest of “being you.”

Then:

You will have learned to accept your own uniqueness.
You will have learned to set priorities and make decisions.
You will have learned to give yourself the respect that is due.
And you’ll be a most vital mortal.

Dare To Believe:

That you are a wonderful, unique person.
That you are a once-in-all-history event.
That it’s more than a right, it’s your duty, to be who you are.
That life is not a problem to solve, but a gift to cherish.
And you’ll be able to stay one up on what used to get you down.

Imagine….. February 23, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — sarahhamiltoncoaching @ 12:58 PM

The other day someone asked me “To Imagine my city without any water”. A very salient issue right now on our Planet. Now I don’t know about you but when I am asked to imagine I go there…it’s very visceral for me, almost cellular. I’m able to go there like a vortex that pulls me in. The sadness in my body was palpable.

But here’s my question: Why is it that we so often hear imagine with a negatively connoted idea in daily vernacular? Not happy ones?  When I ponder the power that, that word has, I mean John Lennon got it? Words have power. Like energy attracts like energy. It’s science.

So imagine life being gentle… Imagine life with ease… Imagine loving yourself and others unconditionally… You get the idea, Words Have Power.

What’s your Theme Song? February 22, 2010

My question for you for today is: What’s your theme song? Having a theme song says what brings you joy. It can pull you into the moment when you’re everywhere but. It can get you ready to go out or stay in if the mood strikes.  If you don’t have one I invite you to take some time to ponder what mellifluous tones bring sparkle to the who of you. And the who just might be Pete!

I LOVE my theme song so I’ll share it!  What’s yours?

Staying in the Moment

People say, “If I’m always setting goals and reaching for the future, then am I not squandering my now?” And we say if in your now you’re using a future event to make you feel good, you are still feeling good in your now. And that’s the best use of now that you could ever find. — Abraham (Esther and Jerry Hicks)

You will find that I talk a lot about staying in the moment.  It has served me well through many a difficult and wonderous time in my life.  It can make a rotten time easier and a beautiful time more rich.  Because Now is all we will ever have. I even do a Seminar on Staying in the moment and using it towards health and recovery, So when I read this quote this morning I felt all pink and sparkly! In Sarah language I’m really saying I felt joyful and did my Gratitude Dance! Feeling good about the future is bit like Gratitude… it can pull you immediately into the now.

So go feel Joyful and Gr8ful today! And don’t forget Pink and Sparkly! 😉
